About
the artist
Tammy is a former CEO and owner of Sachs Insights, who brings the same precision-driven mindset she applied to strategy and data into her mosaic work. Long fascinated by mosaics, mid-century modern design, and the symbolism of Asian dragons, her work reflects a love of pattern, structure, and imaginative form.
Since 2008, Tammy has studied classical and abstract mosaic design with artists Angele, Yakov, and Yulia Hanansen, and has taken workshops worldwide. She is particularly inspired by the playful spirit and use of found pieces and tesserae seen in the work of Gaudí. Over the years, she has created commissioned mosaic pieces to celebrate weddings, babies, milestone birthdays, and new homes.
With each project, Tammy carefully selects materials—from art glass to sea glass, stone, and found objects—and often pairs them with vintage wooden trays and tables, gently upcycled to create bold, and often functional, artwork. Color combinations and the juxtaposition of materials are central to her process, with each piece shaped by both design and intuition.
With Capricorn Mosaics, Tammy brings her passion for mosaic art and design fully into focus, creating intricate works that balance geometric structure with a sense of play and myth. Each commissioned piece reflects her long-standing interest in bringing many small elements together into something cohesive, expressive, and alive.

About Capricorn Mosaics
-
At Capricorn Mosaics, every piece starts as a conversation between materials, space, and story. We don’t just tile; we orchestrate.
Principles that guide us
Material-first curiosity: We let stone, glass, ceramic, and reclaimed finds lead the design. Each material brings its own voice — texture, translucence, edge — and we compose with those strengths rather than forcing them into a one-size-fits-all pattern.
Narrative through detail: Small pieces tell big stories. Color shifts, grout choice, and the angle of a single tessera can create movement, illusion, and emotion. We layer micro-details that reward closer viewing without overwhelming the whole.
Eco-minded sourcing: We prioritize recycled and locally sourced materials whenever possible.
Why it matters?
Mosaics are resilient, tactile, and endlessly expressive. Our approach ensures they are not just decorative objects but durable, meaningful elements that transform spaces. -
Purpose + Repurpose: We upcycle vintage teak and other hard wood trays and tables and often repurpose mosaic stained glass to give these materials new life as beautiful artworks to be displayed with pride. Integrity, creativity, and empathy shape the way we work. These aren't just words, they’re the foundation of everything we build.
Integrity: We treat every reclaimed piece with honesty and respect. From sourcing teak trays to handling fragile mosaic glass, we prioritize transparency, fair practices, and durable craftsmanship so each piece stands the test of time.
Creativity: We experiment with color, texture, and pattern to transform teak and glass into unexpected, conversation-starting artworks.
Empathy: We care for the people who receive our work, and for the environment. Our process honors the stories embedded in reclaimed materials and aims to create pieces that resonate emotionally with their new homes.
Sustainability in practice:
We rescue teak trays and tables that have been worn over time and repurpose mosaic glass that would otherwise be wasted.
Small-batch production ensures careful attention and minimal resource waste.
Durable finishes and repairable designs extend each piece’s life, reducing future consumption.
Why it matters?
Choosing Capricorn Mosaics means choosing objects with history and soul. Our work reduces waste, supports ethical practices, and brings handcrafted beauty into everyday spaces. Created with integrity, imagined with creativity, and delivered with empathy. -
At Capricorn Mosaics, every piece starts as a simple idea – to turn small, colorful fragments into something meaningful. We don’t just lay glass; we create moments: a morning coffee ritual, a wedding gift, or a table centerpiece that recalls a day on the beach. Why trays and tables? Because functional art lets you experience our work every day, turning everyday objects into something special you live with.
